Obama Takes Connecticut, Helped by Lamont Voters

February 6th, 2008 (09:31 am)

Hell yeah!

Ned Lamont was not on the ballot, but his presence was nonetheless felt in Connecticut’s Democratic presidential primary.

It was the young, the rich and voters who called Iraq the top issue who helped provide the margin of victory for Senator Barack Obama in Connecticut, according to surveys of voters leaving the polls, narrowly defeating Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in her own backyard.

With 96 percent of the votes counted, Mr. Obama had 50 percent of the vote, compared with 47 percent for Mrs. Clinton. The exit polls, conducted by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International, showed Mr. Obama doing well among what some in that state might call the “Ned Lamont coalition.”

The 2006 Primary was a political enlightenment for CT Dems. They are all about embracing change.

Overall, good night for Obama. According to CNN, he has more pledged delegates than Clinton. The race is not over, but it looks good.

Clinton/Obama tied in CT according to Rasmussen

January 29th, 2008 (09:00 pm)

This is why EVERYONE needs to GOTV for Obama next week!

The first Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Connecticut’s Democratic Presidential Primary shows the race couldn’t possibly get any closer. New York Senator Hillary Clinton attracts 40% of the vote and so does Illinois Senator Barack Obama. John Edwards is a very distant third at 11% while 3% say they’d vote for some other candidate and 6% are not sure.

Im so glad I took the time to vote absentee before I left.

Honor, Integrity - foreign concepts to Lieberman

December 16th, 2007 (08:13 pm)

Connecticut Senator, Joe Lieberman, who was the Democrats' vice presidential candidate in 2000, has decided to endorse close Senate colleague and Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona for president tomorrow morning.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2007/12/breaking-news-l.html

Its bad enough that he is endorsing a senile old man for president who is one of Mr. Bush's most ardent supporters - but he also went back on a statement he made one of the debates against Ned Lamont on July 2006:

"I want Democrats to be back in the majority in Washington and elect a Democratic president in 2008."

I still really hate Lieberman

Whoever has Matt for Secret Santa....

I have a suggestion. Get him this book:

We all know how many mistakes he makes in thinking.

Just kidding. Still, it would be hilarious. That is what I would get him.

Stuff for next semester

November 27th, 2007 (01:49 pm)

I think I'm finally getting close to figuring out exactly what I will do next semester. Im pretty excited, Ive gotten involved in a few things.

Its amazing how easy it appears to be to be able to get a TA position here. I applied for a position for three bio classes - and eventually I got replies from all three. I chose to go with Intro Bio...it fits with my schedule the best, and will probably be the easiest to do. I essentially did it so I could meet people and have something else to add to my resume. I met with the guy in charge of coordinating everything for that class in his office today, and it seems like I essentially have it.

I guess I'm actually going to be in charge of leading a small class once every two weeks. That will be very interesting. Im also gonna have to be around during the labs making sure everything is going smoothly.

The other new thing Im doing is the Evos seminar. I joined a special Evolutionary Studies program that they have here - its only 20 credits (and I already have 8 credits that count). 4 of those credits are also given by taking the seminar class twice...which is basically reading papers, and talking about them with professors over pizza and beer on Fridays.

The other classes Im taking are:
-Botany
-Human Genetics
-Cell Bio Lab

They all should be good. All this plus the usual Ballroom and College Dems should give me a nice, busy semester.

Ohio Nationals

November 16th, 2007 (10:20 am)

I leave for the Ohio National Ballroom comp today...people from all over the country will be attending. It is at Columbus, Ohio. Our team will leave on a big bus, pick up some kids from Cornell who are sharing the bus on the way, then head over there.

It should be fun. I doubt most of us are going to place, there is sure to be greater talent among the hundreds of couples competing. And our team has been pretty bad about practicing lately, including myself. Thats because Ive been doing all sorts of other stuff this week.

But I'm happy. I did pretty well on all the tests I had. Now I just get a fun weekend before thanksgiving. The plan is to get back to Binghamton early Monday morning. Then I'll leave sometime Tuesday afternoon to go back to CT for a few days. Cant wait.

By the way, I woke up today to see snow on the ground. Maybe just an inch or so. The first of the year.
